Overcoming Obstacles at Work

If you feel like you’re currently lacking resources, connections, certainty or confidence to help you overcome your current professional obstacles, today’s podcast episode is for you.  

I have a very simple framework I’m going to share that’s not only going to help you get out of that funk as it relates to overcoming your professional obstacles. 

And, you can even use this framework to help you through your personal struggles. 

In this “Love the Work Your Do” podcast episode, you will learn how to:

  • Determine THE obstacle that needs your immediate attention
  • Squash those limiting beliefs around overcoming your biggest obstacle
  • Rally the support you need to rise above your struggles 

I’ll wrap up the episode with your next best steps to get you on the pathway to achieving results versus feeling stuck and complacent game.  

“Overcoming Your Biggest Obstacle” Framework:

First, make a list of all the obstacles that you think could be getting in your way.

I suggest making a short list because the thing you may think is your biggest obstacle, may not be the root cause of why you’re struggling. 

Then, rank the obstacles in order of importance. Number one is the thing that you know you’ve got to fix… yesterday.

Second, identify the limiting beliefs you have around your number one ranked obstacle. 

For instance, if your goal is to find more partnerships or opportunities to showcase your expertise, but your obstacle is a lot of people in your industry who are vying for the same opportunities, your limiting belief might be you could never stand out there’s too many people in your circle of influence that are doing the same thing you’re doing.

After you come up with your own examples, then write down the exact opposite of that limiting belief. These would be like your empowering beliefs around this specific obstacle. 

Third, identify who has already overcome this particular obstacle. This is also a good time to make a list of books, podcasts, classes, coaches or accountability partners that have already overcome your obstacle.

Do a web search on books, podcasts or classes that already have some sort of system or method to help professionals overcome this particular obstacle.

Finally, determine YOUR next best step towards progress. You want to accomplish this next best step within the next 24 hours.

Another benefit of this formula is it will help you work through some of your personal obstacles, as well. It will really unlock a lot of opportunities for you to explore what you’re going to do next and what are the resources are out there to empower you versus limit you in your abilities to overcome any obstacle personally or professionally.
