In this episode, we have invited Jodi Henson. Jodi Henson is a business consultant and entrepreneur who lives in north Florida with her husband. She works with small businesses and aspiring business owners to help them develop and grow their businesses, overcome obstacles, and achieve their goals. Today, Jodi will talk about her work in helping small businesses, impacting them as she helps them leverage their professional stregths.
Key Takeaways from my chat with Jodi:
The Inspiration behind Jodi’s Work: Jodi’s career has focused on small businesses for 18 years. She has worked in small companies in a variety of capacities. She has worked in the Small Business Division of Fortune 100 companies. Jodi decided to buy a bridal shop while pregnant with her first child and run it until she had her second child. She knew she wasn’t ready to be a stay-at-home mom, but the pressure of working 60 to 70 hours a week in the corporate world led her to believe that the bridal shop was the best option. She and her husband eventually bought a franchise, and they now own several small businesses and a consulting firm.
Jodi makes an impact through her work and inspiration: Jodi is the brain behind the Softer Side of Success. The Softer Side of Success is assisting women who want to grow or start a small business. All of the mechanics of starting a business and running a business, there’s the personal element of how it affects our lives, happiness, and satisfaction. Jodi guides others through monthly breakthrough exercises, which focus on soft skills and ways to make you a bit more business savvy, efficient, and effective in what you do.
How you can Leverage Strengths and tap your full potentials: We, as humans, tend to overlook all of the things that we are very good at. We must recall our talents and critical skills to complete complex tasks and provide high-quality results. We have a bias for loving the things we excel at. We tend to do work that we enjoy because we’re competent at it. So, if you want to accomplish the type of work that you enjoy, concentrate on the areas where you thrive. One approach to conduct an inventory and get those things to bubble up to the surface and be aware of, and then be proactive about it, is to leverage your strengths.
Book recommendation: Andy Andrews’ “The Noticer” is Jodi’s favorite book. It’s a ten-chapter novel, with each chapter serving as an independent story that eventually links the ten chapters together. Each chapter includes a powerful, life-changing lesson. One of the teachings from those chapters is that we assess people based on their actions, while we judge ourselves based on our intentions.
Jodi’s advice: Jodi recommends that you take advantage of the “gift”—an evaluation on her website to maximize your talents, reach your full potential, and learn more about yourself through different perspectives.
